About the Position

Hennepin County's Information Technology department is seeking a skilled IT Engineer to join the Enterprise Business Intelligence team. This role will collaborate with technologists across the organization to define and expand our work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and support interface tools, including system data models, workflows, APIs, ETL, data warehouses, and integrations.
  • Design and develop cloud services and sustainable data structures in a data warehouse and/or data lake, enforcing design standards and managing access and file-level permissions.
  • Research new data technologies, optimize resources to meet analytics needs, monitor, and maintain resource availability.
  • Implement, monitor, and maintain complex data pipelines, manipulate data for analytics workloads, and load data into data stores for consumption by developers and analysts.
  • Provide backup and support for Senior IT Data Engineers, troubleshoot, and resolve root cause problems on complex data systems.
  • Promote business intelligence best practices around data governance, security, and quality, metadata management, data modeling, ETL and ELT, reporting, and visualization technologies; stay current with data technologies to ensure Hennepin County Business Intelligence practices align with evolving consumer needs and technological resources.
Requirements
  • Four years or more of information technology experience.
  • Associate/vocation/technical degree in computer science/engineering or a related information technology field and two years or more of information technology experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, data engineering, business intelligence, data analytics, or a related information technology field.
  • Current certification in a leading professional level certification area (e.g., Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, Infoblox Core DDI, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years or more of experience in data storage solutions for efficient reporting.
  • One year or more of experience developing ETL in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, or any other market-leading ETL tools.
  • Experience scripting/coding with one or more of the following: PowerShell, PL/SQL, T-SQL, Python, R, DAX, M, or Kusto language.
