Position Description

The UCLA Department of Public Policy invites applications for a part-time instructor for the upcoming Winter quarter 2025 (January through March 2025).

We seek qualified candidates to deliver an introductory microeconomics course, Public Policy 204: Principles of Microeconomic Theory II. This course is the second in a mandatory two-course microeconomics sequence for first-year Master's of Public Policy students. The curriculum does not require prior knowledge of calculus. Key topics include competitive markets, imperfect competition, investment strategies, asymmetric information, and insurance principles. Responsibilities encompass lecturing, conducting office hours, and assessing student performance. Collaboration with fellow faculty and department staff is essential.

A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Economics or a related discipline is mandatory. Previous experience teaching comparable courses is preferred.

Refer to Table 15 Unit 18 Faculty (Pre-Six Year Lecturers) for the salary range applicable to this position. A reasonable estimate for this role is an annual salary range of $66,259 to $81,491, which will be prorated based on teaching workload and appointment percentage.

This position is represented by the University Council - American Federation of Teachers. Internal applicants will be prioritized for reappointment before external candidates are considered.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Economics or a related field is required. Candidates should possess education, training, professional experience, or other forms of proven expertise in the subject matter to be covered by the course; evidence of experience and success in teaching and presenting relevant substantive material to audiences similar to students enrolled in the course.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in teaching similar courses is preferred.
