Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Planner to join our team at the Town of Cornelius. As a key member of our planning department, you will be responsible for leading complex planning projects, providing technical expertise, and collaborating with stakeholders to achieve our community's development goals.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate planning projects, including rezoning, text amendments, variances, and site plan reviews.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior planning staff, code enforcement staff, and other stakeholders.
- Develop and present reports, memos, and other written materials to elected officials, community groups, and other external agencies.
- Collaborate with regional agencies, local civic groups, and business leaders to advance planning and community development initiatives.
- Administer the land development review and permitting processes using the Mecklenburg County Acella system.
- Coordinate GIS data and map management for planning projects and other Town departments.
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers, including citizens, business owners, developers, and fellow Town staff.
- Bachelor's degree in urban planning, geography, GIS, or a closely related field; master's degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in municipal planning, with a focus on complex planning projects and community development initiatives.
- Specialized experience and understanding of applied GIS systems is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of North Carolina statutes, rules, and regulations related to community development.
- Intermediate knowledge of GIS technology and its applications.
- Ability to develop area-wide planning and community development programs in accordance with modern practices and standards.
- Ability to prepare and present clear and concise reports and presentations to internal and external agencies.
- Ability to exercise critical analysis to resolve complex planning problems and present clear recommendations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, stakeholders, and diverse groups and agencies.
