KDMT Paramedic Specialist

The KDMT Paramedic position involves safely transporting patients to and from private residences, nursing facilities, and hospitals. Responding to emergency calls, the Paramedic provides immediate care to critically ill and injured patients, and transports them to a medical facility.

• Transport patients to and from private residences, nursing facilities, and hospitals, following instructions from dispatchers and safely driving the ambulance to specific locations.
• Conduct daily vehicle and equipment inspections, ensuring cleanliness and proper functioning.
• Administer medical treatment and transport sick or injured persons to a medical facility or between medical facilities.
• Remove or assist in removing patients from accident or incident scenes, determining the nature and extent of their illness or injury and establishing treatment.
• Assist treatment center admitting personnel in obtaining patient record information.
• Additional duties include scheduling truck crew and ambulette drivers, issuing disciplinary action, and participating in quality improvement and assurance.

• Minimum requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED and completion of an approved Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P) program.
  • Active State of Kentucky EMT-P certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current Driver's License.
  • Annual emergency vehicle operators course completion.
• Preferred qualifications:
  • State of Ohio EMT-P certification.
  • National Registry for EMT-P certification.

• Constantly works near moving mechanical parts.
• Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.
• Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation.
• Typically works in a moderate noise level environment.

• Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting).
• Frequently required to walk and move about.
• Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
• Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
• Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
• Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
• Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team members, requiring talking and hearing.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• Occasionally required to position self to meet patient needs.
