The Vascular Medicine department at Cleveland Clinic is dedicated to offering comprehensive treatment for patients with arterial, venous, and lymphatic disorders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic services in various healthcare settings.
  • Conduct patient assessments, document findings, and inform physicians of any abnormalities.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team to establish care plans.
  • Coordinate ongoing patient care and facilitate discharge planning as necessary.
  • Offer telephone triage and participate in call rotations as required.
  • Execute nursing procedures and treatments as directed by physicians or licensed independent practitioners.
  • Uphold standards of care in alignment with Cleveland Clinic policies and procedures.
  • Assist with specialized patient care equipment as needed.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Oversee and participate in the evaluation and supervision of nursing care provided to patients.
  • Set patient care priorities and delegate nursing tasks based on patient needs and staff capabilities.
  • Serve as charge nurse when assigned to ensure operational efficiency and continuity of care.
  • Engage in educational, research, and performance improvement initiatives. Provide health education to patients and families.
  • Develop, assess, and document educational materials tailored to the learning needs of patients and families.
  • Assist in preparing department-specific education for patients and colleagues. Cover other nursing roles as needed.
  • Maintain core nursing competencies (CPR, skills labs).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • BSN preferred.

Certifications:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. For areas performing moderate sedation, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through AHA must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • In the Emergency Department, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through AHA is required upon hire or within one year of starting in the department.
  • For areas utilizing Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC Lines), Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) or Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) certification is preferred within three years of hire.

Work Complexity:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be capable of functioning in a high-pressure environment and responding appropriately.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of recent RN experience required; two years preferred.
  • For Cardiac Catheterization or related procedural areas, one year of critical care experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence is essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Involves standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Requires corrected hearing and vision within normal ranges.
  • Involves some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical demands exceed those for Light Work.

  • Adheres to Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
