Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Construction Inspector to join our team at the City of Waukesha. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and ordinances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect residential and commercial structures to determine compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Review plans and specifications for new construction and alterations to buildings.
  • Perform occupancy inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and life safety standards.
  • Conduct inspections on buildings that are to be razed or have been damaged by fire or natural disaster.
  • Communicate with contractors, property owners, and other stakeholders regarding code compliance and required permits.
  • Provide information and guidance on building code requirements to the public and other stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Two years of technical or specialized training in a construction-related field or an Associate's degree with relevant coursework.
  • Five or more years of experience as a construction tradesperson, engineer, architect, or construction building inspector.
  • Preferred experience in the construction trades or a related field, with certifications such as UDC Construction Inspector or Wisconsin Commercial Building Inspector.
Working Conditions

The Construction Inspector will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to construction sites, buildings, and other outdoor locations. The position requires the ability to climb ladders, traverse uneven terrain, and work in a variety of weather conditions.
