Job Title: Librarian IV - Adult Learning and Economic Advancement

This position is responsible for managing the Adult Learning and Economic Advancement Unit, supervising staff, and collaborating with partners to develop and implement programs that promote economic advancement and adult learning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage multiple projects and programs to promote economic advancement and adult learning
  • Supervise and collaborate with staff to develop and implement programs
  • Establish and maintain beneficial partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders
  • Develop and lead formal and informal learning programs, resources, and services for adult patrons
  • Assist leadership in articulating the library's vision for success in serving the varied and changing educational needs of adult patrons
  • Thoughtfully plan and oversee training for Adult Services librarians across the system
  • Support public service staff with clear and timely communication and helpful resources
  • Support a collaborative and peer-focused learning environment for both admin and public service staff
  • Create comprehensive service plans and strategic initiatives to enhance and expand adult learning opportunities system-wide
  • Build and maintain effective and stable programmatic partnerships and referral networks with other city departments, educational organizations, and citywide civic and nonprofit organizations
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in library science or an approved foreign credential evaluation
  • Three years of professional library experience, including one year in a supervisory role
  • Knowledge of issues affecting adult learners and job seekers
  • Knowledge of best practices in digital literacy and an applied knowledge of digital equity
  • Project management experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Experience talking to and instructing crowds, including virtual environments
  • Adult education program experience
Working Conditions:

This position is in the Career Service and requires a 37.5-hour workweek. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional evening work required.

Residency Requirement:

All employees of the City of Chicago must be actual residents of the City as outlined in the City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
