Position Overview:
The Sommelier plays a vital role within the restaurant's service team, dedicated to crafting an unforgettable wine, sake, and beverage experience for our guests. This position collaborates closely with the Beverage Director to uphold the highest standards of our beverage program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Beverage Director to design and sustain an appealing wine program that enhances guest satisfaction.
- Guide guests through their beverage selections, ensuring a memorable dining experience.
- Contribute to a financially sound wine program that boosts sales while managing inventory in alignment with the restaurant's operational needs.
- Exhibit versatility and a broad skill set across various service roles, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
- Deliver exceptional hospitality, prioritizing luxury dining and guest engagement.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of products and service standards.
- Serve as a mentor to other staff members, sharing expertise and fostering development within the team.
- Personalize each guest's experience, tailoring it to their preferences for a bespoke dining occasion.
- Ensure meticulous table maintenance and coordinate with dining room staff to execute service standards effectively.
- Support team dynamics by assisting in various capacities as needed.
- Oversee support staff to ensure completion of their duties during service.
- Accurately manage guest checks throughout the evening, ensuring completeness before presenting to guests.
- Fulfill all assigned side work efficiently.
- Communicate guest needs to the kitchen and management, including dietary restrictions and special requests.
- Build and maintain relationships with guests, documenting their preferences for future visits.
- Ensure responsible alcohol service, adhering to age verification protocols.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned at management's discretion.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Sommelier or wine service role; CMS Certification or WSET Level 3 preferred, with CMS Intro or WSET Level 2 required.
- Knowledge of Asian beverages and pairings (Sake, Shochu/Soju, Awamori) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of wine, sake, spirits, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages.
- Fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Capability to lift cases of products weighing approximately 50 lbs.
- Attention to detail and a passion for organization.
- Commitment to ongoing education beyond service hours.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Wine and Sake Responsibilities:
- Assist the Beverage Director in product sourcing and curation of wine pairings.
- Educate staff on beverage offerings.
- Maintain accurate inventory records for incoming deliveries.
- Verify pricing and track corked wines for vendor credits.
- Manage proper storage and refrigeration of products.
- Support the team in pouring pairings and selling beverages.
- Conduct wine inventory and assist in reordering established items.
- Collaborate with the Beverage Director on the creative direction of the beverage list.
Spirit Responsibilities:
- Assist in recommending cocktail pairings for guests.
- Support the service team in various operational tasks.
- Participate in spirits training sessions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Starting at $2.13 per hour
Work Environment: Fine dining restaurant
Schedule: Evening shifts
