Magistrate Judge Vacancy

The U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota, is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill a Magistrate Judge position. This is an exciting opportunity to serve the community and contribute to the administration of justice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct hearings and trials in a fair and impartial manner
  • Make recommendations to the District Judges on matters of law and fact
  • Participate in the development of court policies and procedures
  • Interact with attorneys, litigants, and court staff in a professional and courteous manner
Requirements
  • Be a member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Territory of Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, or the United States Virgin Islands
  • Be competent to perform all the duties of the office
  • Have a strong understanding of the law and the court system
  • Be able to work effectively in a team environment
Selection Process

A Merit Selection Panel comprised of attorneys and members of the community will review all applications and recommend to the District Judges in confidence the five persons whom it finds to be best qualified.

The Court will make the appointment following an FBI full-field investigation and IRS tax check of the applicant selected by the Court for appointment.

The individual selected must comply with the financial disclosure requirements under the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.
