Job Description

The Aviation Safety Professional will be responsible for ensuring the safety of aircraft systems and subsystems through standardized processes and issuance of flight authorizations. This includes understanding and executing AFPD 62-6, USAF Airworthiness, as well as applying MIL-HDBK-516C, Airworthiness Certification Criteria.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in risk assessment, system safety engineering, and mishap investigation. They will work closely with functional disciplines to develop solutions to findings and recommendations, and report them through appropriate channels to the Air Force Safety Center.

This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and collaboration abilities. The Aviation Safety Professional will participate in conferences and crisis management team meetings, and assist with keeping the crisis management team roster current.

The selected candidate will also be responsible for evaluating contractor safety proposals and safety analyses, as well as assisting with resolution of high-priority safety issues.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in an ABET accredited engineering discipline, and twelve (12) years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline being performed, ve (5) years of which must be in the DoD -OR-
  • Bachelors degree in an ABET accredited engineering discipline, and fteen (15) years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline being performed, ve (5) of which must be in the DoD
