Senior Program Manager, Advanced Grid Solutions
2 months ago
At Portland General Electric (PGE), we are dedicated to envisioning, strategizing, and implementing a more intelligent, sustainable, and resilient energy future for our communities. Since our inception in 1888, we have been committed to energizing lives, fortifying communities, and driving forward advancements in energy that foster social, economic, and environmental progress. We seek individuals who are enthusiastic about leading and collaborating with teams that are pioneering innovative clean energy solutions that are both affordable and accessible to everyone.
Position Overview
PGE has been awarded a significant grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to execute a comprehensive initiative aimed at deploying grid edge computing (GEC) across a substantial portion of our service area. As the lead Program Manager for this intricate program, you will oversee a multi-faceted approach that includes the planning, design, and integration of technical systems, as well as the field installation of grid edge computing devices such as meters, sensors, and other technologies. Your role will also encompass the deployment of software applications, the delivery of community benefits, and the demonstration of key program advantages. The total budget for this initiative exceeds $108 million, with a projected team of over 30 professionals at its peak. You will be responsible for all facets of program execution, including scope management, scheduling, budgeting, contracting, reporting, and risk mitigation.
Program Highlights
PGE's GEC technology solution integrates advanced field devices equipped with high-performance computing processors and a suite of software platforms based on sophisticated analytical models, including artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML). This program will leverage real-time data from edge computing devices to enhance visibility of the electrical grid, provide operational insights, improve outage response, and ultimately help anticipate and mitigate the effects of extreme weather on grid resilience. Key benefits of the program include:
1. Acceleration of clean energy through the integration and optimization of distributed energy resources (DER).
2. Provision of more reliable and cleaner energy for disadvantaged communities, with 40% of deployments focused in these areas.
3. Development of a workforce skilled in AI and machine learning technologies.
This role presents a remarkable opportunity to influence the energy landscape in the Northwest, support our customers, and unlock numerous possibilities for transforming the electrical grid.
Key Responsibilities
Program Execution: Lead the implementation of a program comprising multiple complex projects, including engineering, operations, and process enhancements.
Strategic Leadership: Formulate program strategies that encompass various enterprise projects to achieve strategic objectives; provide leadership and motivation to the team while ensuring adherence to established project management methodologies.
Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and execute communication strategies to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of program status to all stakeholders, fostering collaboration and reducing inefficiencies.
Process Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance business processes and establish metrics for measuring success.
Qualifications
Education: A bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, computer science, or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 12 years in relevant fields such as Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) or utility IT/OT deployments is typically expected.
Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications are preferred.
PGE is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and is an equal opportunity employer. We value the unique contributions of every individual and are dedicated to creating an environment where everyone can thrive.
