Job Title: School Nurse

Albuquerque School of Excellence is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team.

Job Summary:

The School Nurse will provide comprehensive health services to students, including assessment, screening, planning, intervention, evaluation, counseling, management, and referrals. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with healthcare providers, students, parents, school district staff, and community agencies to ensure access and continuity of care for students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive school health program
  • Conduct school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and sight and hearing testing
  • Perform nursing assessment for students who are ill or injured
  • Evaluate nursing care provided and make changes to the plan of care as necessary
  • Implement state policies regarding the exclusion and readmission of students with infectious and contagious diseases
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and federal law
  • Develop individual health care plans (ICHPs) for students with specific goals, nursing diagnoses, and interventions
  • Intervene as guided by the nursing care plan to implement nursing actions that promote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness, and effect rehabilitation
  • Provide guidance, counseling, and health education to students, parents, and employees as necessary
  • Report to parents, school district personnel, physicians, clinics, and others as needed to meet student health needs
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related science area
  • Must meet qualifications and certification of a school nurse as defined in state regulations
  • Current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Successful experience working with a pediatric population, preferably in a community or school setting
Working Conditions:

The School Nurse will work in a standard school building environment and may be exposed to body secretions, blood-borne pathogens, medicine, and medicinal supplies. The successful candidate must adhere to all applicable professional safety standards and practices in the nursing field.
