Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and experienced TRIO Project Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our Division of Strategic Enrollment Management, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic success and personal growth of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional advising services to students, utilizing intrusive advising methods to support student success and increase retention and graduation rates.
  • Develop and implement programming to support grant objectives, including workshops, events, and other activities that promote academic enrichment, professional development, and personal well-being.
  • Teach a semester-long first-year studies course for TRIO SSS cohort participants, executing course requirements and participating in professional development related to first-year studies training and course curriculum.
  • Engage in professional development to enhance job-related skills and remain knowledgeable of best practices and policy regarding higher education, student success, and TRIO initiatives.
Requirements
  • In progress Master's degree in student services, higher education leadership, counseling, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of or experience working with students from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and data entry technology.
  • Demonstrated organization, interpersonal, customer service, and time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to foster leadership, study skills, team building exercises, and confidence building.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completed Master's degree in student services, higher education leadership, counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience in providing case management services and advising students on college course selection, financial aid application process, and graduate school/career exploration.
  • Experience with student information systems.
  • Professional experience supporting underserved student populations.
