    • Assist individuals in identifying their strengths, wellness goals, and setting objectives
    • Help individuals learn how to ask for appropriate services in the community
  • Attending Treatment Team Meetings
    • Attend treatment team meetings with individuals to promote their use of self-directed advocacy tools
  • Providing Education and Support
    • Teach wellness management strategies and help individuals develop their own self-management plans
    • Connect individuals to support groups in the community to promote hope and problem-solving
  • Providing Resources and Education
    • Provide education to other staff to increase their understanding of self-advocacy and peer support roles
    • Share personal experiences to model self-advocacy skills
  • Administrative and Other Related Duties
    • Actively participate in Performance Improvement activities

Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Current or former recipient of mental health services for at least one year
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in the adult population
    • Knowledge of cultural diversity
    • Knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention, and interventions common to acute psychotic consumers
