Patient Care Technician Job Description

Nemours Children's Health is seeking a skilled Patient Care Technician to join our team in Orlando, FL. This full-time position requires 72 hours of work per biweekly period, with night shifts and weekend/holiday requirements.

This role is ideal for certified nursing assistants or individuals who have completed at least one semester of nursing clinicals. As a Patient Care Technician, you will be responsible for:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assisting with general activities and demonstrating proficiency in patient care.
  • Providing family-centered care in conjunction with other disciplines.

Essential Functions:

  • Preparing patient rooms for admission, ensuring cleanliness and proper equipment setup.
  • Managing inventory and maintaining adequate stock of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Performing vital signs and reporting abnormalities to assigned RN.
  • Recording patient intake and output as directed by RN.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe patient care environment.
  • Assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing other patient care as directed.
  • Utilizing the electronic medical record for patient care.
  • Participating in unit, departmental, and hospital education programs.
  • Transporting patients and escorting discharged patients to their vehicles.
  • Covering the patient care unit front desk as needed, including answering phones, greeting patients, and managing medical records.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma and completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant course.
  • In lieu of Nursing Assistant course, completion of at least one semester of basic nursing skills in an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of one year of hospital PCT or CNA experience preferred.
  • Valid American Heart Association BLS Certification required upon hire.
