Job Summary:

Many Rivers Whole Health is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Mental Health Peer Support Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will work with individuals who have severe and chronic behavioral health challenges, providing community-based peer support services that promote recovery, empowerment, and community integration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to help consumers develop a personal recovery plan and identify opportunities to provide support as clients work to achieve their recovery goals.
  • Promote client self-determination and decision-making.
  • Coach and support clients who are developing the necessary skills for integration into the community.
  • Advocate for clients working in recovery that are developing life skills and building confidence to attain goals.
  • Interact with referral contacts within the community.
  • Link clients to resources identified within the wellness recovery plan.
  • Model competency in recovery and maintaining ongoing wellness.
  • Monitor and support client through peer support and reports progress or concerns to the treatment team.
  • May participate with Crisis Response Team calls.

Requirements:
  • GED or Highschool diploma required.
  • 1-2 years' experience in dealing with mental illness issues and related mental health services.
  • Must have a personal recovery experience for mental health and/or substance use.
  • Must be in recovery for 2 years.
  • Without incarceration, hospitalization, or inpatient admission exceeding 72 hours.
  • Some knowledge and experience of severe mental illness and treatment, and its impact on consumer/survivors and their families.
  • Computer skills an asset.
  • Must obtain Certification within 1 month of hired date.
