Perioperative Housekeeper Job Description

The CORE Institute is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Perioperative Housekeeper to join our team. As a key member of our perioperative services team, you will play a critical role in maintaining a clean and safe environment for our patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform room turnover between cases in an efficient manner, following Universal Blood and Body Fluid (UBBF) precautions and utilizing Personal Protective Eyewear (PPE).
  • Perform terminal cleaning of OR suites following a predetermined schedule on a rotational basis using PPE and following UBBF Guidelines.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, orderliness, and appearance of substerile rooms and scrub sink areas.
  • Practice safe working methods and universal precautions, utilizing PPE to avoid injury to self and others.
  • Be familiar with precautions and handle hazardous material in such a way to protect self and coworkers.
  • Be familiar with the principles of Aseptic Technique and maintain a safe distance from the sterile field when performing job functions in the OR environment.
  • Dons appropriate surgical attire within the semi-restricted and restricted areas of the OR which includes surgical scrubs, hair covering, and masks where indicated.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Be familiar with OR equipment care and maintenance and returns to proper storage location after use.
  • Promote continuity of care by reporting accurate patient information to appropriate caregivers for resolution.
  • Restock linens.
  • Empty and takeout trash and linen throughout the day on a daily basis in all Perioperative areas, including lounges and central supply.
  • Replenish mop heads, trash bags, linen bags, face mask, scrub brushes and scrub sink soap throughout the day on a daily basis.
  • Keep paper towels and gloves (non-sterile) stocked at scrub sinks.
  • Keep locker room supplied with hats, shoe covers, toilet paper, paper towels and Kleenex.
  • Clean the OR staff lounge and the Physicians lounge daily.
  • Clean and stock male and female locker rooms.
  • Clean and stock male and female restrooms.
  • Clean all common areas of the Operating room (including but not limited to corridors and the front desk).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Perioperative setting is preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtained within 3 months.
  • The job holder must demonstrate current competencies for job position.
  • Must be knowledgeable of guidelines and techniques for cleaning equipment, as well as aseptic techniques for blood collection.

Working Conditions:

  • Standing, and walking for long periods of time, exposed to a variety of environmental elements, and cleaning product odors.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Work requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires lifting, pushing and pulling of approximately 50 lbs.

Organizational Requirements:

  • OSHA Requirements and training to include: Annual Safety Training.
