Job Overview

Community Youth Services is seeking a dedicated Youth Care Specialist to join our team at the Young Adult Shelter in Olympia.

About the Role:

  • Ensure a safe and stable environment for young adults aged 18-21 during shelter hours (9:00 PM - 8:30 AM).
  • Provide crisis intervention, referrals, and support system strengthening to help youth overcome challenges.
  • Work three 12-hour overnight shifts weekly, remaining awake throughout beginning at 8:45 pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain a healthy shelter environment and utilize best practices for positive behavior facilitation.
  2. Enforce rules to keep a calm atmosphere and manage safety decisions, including evictions or law enforcement contact if needed.
  3. Assist with participant transitions into and out of the shelter.
  4. Record interactions and behaviors, and report significant events to the Program Director.
  5. Prepare evening snacks, track attendance, and manage participant identification and behavior.

  • Has at least two years of direct experience or education in social sciences related to high-risk youth.
  • Can provide unique empathy and understanding through lived experience overcoming challenges similar to those faced by our youth.
  • Is available to work flexible schedules, including overnight shifts.
