Head of Green End Operations

The Head of Green End Operations is tasked with delivering exceptional leadership in safety, manufacturing, and production processes from the log yard through to the lathe production zones.
Key Responsibilities:
- Achieve manufacturing business plan objectives for the entire department.
- Foster strong working relationships across all departments, including Dry Side, Maintenance, and Shipping.
- Collaborate effectively with counterparts in sister plants to share best practices.
- Understand the impact of departmental performance on other areas and the overall site.
Leadership Expectations:
The Head of Green End Operations is expected to exemplify safety standards and on-the-job conduct by embodying core principles such as integrity, fairness, and promoting a positive, inclusive work atmosphere. Open communication among leaders and team members is essential.
Accountabilities Include:
- Modeling safety leadership and cultivating a robust safety culture within the department and across the site.
- Leading the development, implementation, management, and enforcement of policies, procedures, and projects.
- Guiding the ongoing growth of the organization and strategically developing individual talent for succession planning.
- Optimizing production scheduling, product mix value extraction, and asset utilization.
- Managing and improving production and inventory costs within the assigned area.
- Encouraging continuous improvement and innovation in the functional area.
- Overseeing performance management of direct reports by establishing goals and ensuring accountability.
- Demonstrating financial acumen by managing departmental costs effectively.
- Facilitating change and coaching others to adapt to new processes.
- Focusing on daily training and skill development opportunities to enhance team performance.
- Recruiting, retaining, and developing talent within the team.
- Coordinating activities with other departments, including maintenance, to proactively address concerns.
- Leading the team by resolving employee issues, fostering teamwork, and ensuring adherence to site policies consistently.
- Participating in or leading initiatives for capital projects and problem-solving activities.
- Conducting administrative and reporting tasks as required.
- Understanding asset integrity and effectively utilizing allocated capital resources.
- Leveraging downtime and production tracking data to make informed business decisions.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- A minimum of five years of experience in a leadership role within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Strong business and financial competency with an understanding of unit vision and strategy.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships.
- Experience utilizing production tracking systems data.
- Capability to motivate and develop a safety-focused, high-performing team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of wood products manufacturing processes.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- Able to drive results to meet manufacturing goals.
- Collaborative and inclusive leadership style.
- Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Office.
- High integrity with a commitment to making sound decisions.
- Willingness to support a 24/7 operational environment, including weekend and holiday support as needed.
- Able to meet the physical demands of working in an industrial environment.
