Job Summary:

Applies scientific knowledge and therapy to practical clinical problems of respiratory care. As a team member in the delivery of respiratory services, and under medical direction, performs a wide range of procedures related to the care of patients with general and specialized respiratory-related needs of various age groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs evaluation to determine respiratory care needs, and makes appropriate recommendations and changes in accordance with policy and protocol guidelines.
  • Assesses effectiveness of treatment and accurately documents according to department and legal/regulatory standards.
  • Performs point of care testing as required.
  • Performs advanced evaluation, management, and therapeutic procedures (interventions) for patients requiring respiratory assistance.
  • Assesses effectiveness of intervention and accurately documents according to department and legal/regulatory standards.
  • Completes and documents required education and competencies within designated timeframe.
  • Maintains competency in areas of accountability.
  • Accurate and timely completion of all necessary documentation and billing.
  • Facilitates a smooth transition for the patient to appropriate referral services/the next point of service/home and provides education to patients and families as it relates to respiratory issues.
  • Instructs and trains other respiratory care staff, nursing, and other medical personnel and students regarding patient needs and respiratory care services.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy
  • 2 years of relevant experience in pulmonary rehabilitation, respiratory care, sleep medicine, or equivalent clinical education required
  • CRT-Respiratory Therapist Registry - NBRC National Board for Respiratory Care required upon hire
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association required within 90 days
  • LIC-Respiratory Therapist - STATE_MI State of Michigan required
  • CRT-Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - American Heart Association 90 days
