Male - Community Companion

The Community Companion is responsible for providing support to individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes. This role involves assisting with daily living tasks, community integration, and personal care.

• Community Integration and Participation:
  • Locate and facilitate individual participation in community activities, including transportation to appointments or events.
  • Provide training and assistance in developing safety skills and daily living skills to increase independence.
  • Encourage individuals to make choices and develop relationships outside of their home.
  • Coordinate supports for regular exercise and healthy lifestyles.
• Personal Care:
  • Provide guidance and assistance in personal grooming and hygiene.
  • Assist with and dispense medications and medical treatments as necessary.
• Financial Management:
  • Assist individuals with responsible management of their personal funds.
  • Provide assistance with banking as required.
• Communication and Documentation:
  • Use effective communication with individuals, family members, and other parties.
  • Document required records and reports clearly and consistently.
  • Communicate with families to ensure appropriate support provision.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of experience working with children or adults in a care-giving setting.
• Good driving record, reliable vehicle, and current Maryland Driver's license required.
• Ability to complete The Arc's training requirements.
• Strong communication and care-giving skills essential.

The Arc Prince George's County has been providing support services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1952. We serve over 600 individuals and offer a range of programs, including community living, family and personal supports, employment services, and day programs.
