The role of a Cardiac Ultrasound Tech at UNC Health Care involves utilizing advanced imaging technology to assist healthcare professionals in diagnosing cardiac conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct echocardiograms with consistent diagnostic accuracy, generating high-quality ultrasound images of the heart and its structures utilizing 2D, M-Mode, Doppler, and Strain imaging techniques.
2. Administer ultrasound enhancing agents competently.
3. Provide comprehensive pre- and post-procedure patient care, including assessment and emergency cardiac support as needed.
4. Complete structured reports for all examinations promptly.
5. Collaborate with healthcare providers regarding echocardiogram findings.
6. Maintain accurate patient records and manage report storage and data systems, ensuring timely charge entry and video archiving using digital storage solutions.

Qualifications:
Education:
● High School Diploma or GED
● Associate degree in Sonography, Radiology, or a related field within three months of hire, or completion of a twelve-month ultrasound program within three months of hire.
Licensure/Certification:
● Basic Life Support (BLS)
● Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) within one year of hire, maintaining registry status and continuing education annually.
Experience:
● No prior experience required.

Skills and Abilities:
● Proficient in operating sonographic equipment.
● Ability to assess echocardiograms for optimal diagnostic information.
● Flexibility to adjust workload based on patient needs.
● Independent judgment in acquiring the best echocardiogram data during examinations.
● Adherence to established departmental protocols.
● Capability to work efficiently in emergency situations.
● Strong knowledge of echocardiography interpretation and skills.
● Excellent communication skills and sensitivity to patient requirements.
● Ability to interpret patient information to meet age-specific care needs.
