We are seeking a skilled MRI Technologist to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As an MRI Technologist, you will be responsible for operating magnetic resonance equipment to perform diagnostic procedures, obtaining medical histories, and preparing patients for exams.
Key Responsibilities- Operate MRI equipment to perform diagnostic procedures, including angiography, thoracic, abdomen, venous, cardiac, functional MRI, gated, interventional, breast MRI, fetal MR, and spectroscopy.
- Obtain medical histories from patients, compare requisitions to physician's orders, and prepare and administer contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist.
- Position patients and select proper scanning factors, adjust factors to attain the appropriate images, and provide magnet protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies.
- Post-process images as directed, accurately identify and label images, and maintain records in accordance with various regulatory agencies.
- Identify equipment performance issues, perform equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures, and report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
- Serve as a technical resource, role model, and/or preceptor for students and staff, and act as a resource to staff at own facility and throughout the system.
- Facilitate clinical problem solving and collaborate with other departments to provide education on managing patients after procedures and imaging department processes and procedures.
- Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) registration and certification issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.
- Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
- Typically requires 2 years of experience in a MRI Technologist role.
The MRI Technologist will work in a fast-paced environment, operating MRI equipment, and interacting with patients, physicians, and staff. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
The MRI Technologist will be required to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. The position also requires the ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
The MRI Technologist may be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, and magnetic hazards, as well as blood and body fluids. Personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
