Attorney II

GEICO is seeking an experienced Attorney II to join our team in Virginia Beach, VA. As a key member of our GEICO Staff Counsel, you will play a critical role in defending lawsuits filed in Virginia courts and other first-party insurance defense matters.

• Conduct thorough research and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda to support our defense strategies.
• Render expert opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.
• Defend matters assigned by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable.

• 5-7+ years of experience in a related field.
• Juris Doctor degree.
• Admission to the Virginia Bar.
• Licensed in good standing to practice law in Virginia and meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable.
• Ability to travel as required, including attending trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
• Strong written and communication skills to document files in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
• Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and have strong organization, priority setting, and multi-tasking skills.
• Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, via telephone, and written correspondence/email.

This position requires 2-3 days of working in the office and attending in-person court hearings.
