Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Staff Nurse to join our team at the University of Iowa's DeGowin Blood Center. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where you can make a meaningful impact on patients' lives.

About the Role

This full-time position involves coordinating blood donor activities, ensuring seamless interactions between donors, staff, and medical professionals. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Screens prospective whole blood and apheresis donors, performing physical examinations using standard interview forms or donor computer software.
  • Obtains donor samples for laboratory determination, drawing pretest, retest, and other blood samples as assigned.
  • Performs phlebotomy and draws whole blood units.
  • May participate in off-site blood collection.
  • Records keeping and data collection using manual and computer methods.
  • Blood component harvesting utilizing cell separators.
  • Supervise designated collection staff as directed.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • An Associate's Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA).
  • A current license to practice professional nursing in Iowa.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with blood donors, patients, families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • General computer skills.
  • Proven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team.
Desirable Qualifications

Prior experience in acute care nursing, electronic medical records, university policies, blood donor centers, or highly specialized medical equipment would be advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $54,288.00 per year, paid bi-weekly.
