Key Responsibilities

  • Provide care for patients with pediatric orthopedic conditions, managing both inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Collaborate effectively with orthopedic surgery attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, therapists, social workers, and other support personnel.
  • Prepare patient charts in accordance with established protocols and order necessary imaging studies during office hours using the Electronic Medical Record system.
  • Conduct evaluations and diagnoses of patients.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests tailored to the age-specific needs of patients.
  • Administer injections and prescribe both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of prescribed interventions.
  • Manage dressings, sutures, staples, slings, and braces as needed.
  • Provide pre-operative instructions and clarify the surgical process for patients scheduled for surgery.
  • Engage in patient education, including showing surgical videos, distributing informational brochures, and directing patients to relevant online resources.
  • Act as a liaison in the recovery room on surgical days, coordinating with recovery staff and attending physicians to provide prescriptions and post-operative education.
  • Conduct follow-up visits for post-operative patients, ensuring proper wound checks and care.
  • Review post-operative discharge instructions with patients, focusing on wound care and pain management.
  • Triage incoming calls, providing treatment instructions to patients and families, and documenting actions taken in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Facilitate patient correspondence as necessary, including letters of medical necessity and insurance inquiries.
  • Assist patients in navigating their health needs by identifying potential issues and exploring available options.
  • Support patient transitions within healthcare settings, including admissions, transfers, discharges, and home care referrals.
  • Develop patient care protocols and critical pathways.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of clinical research trials.
  • Independently see patients, perform comprehensive evaluations, and refer patients to specialized surgeons as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience.
  • A minimum of four years of relevant experience.
  • Active New York State RN and NP licenses with DEA certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in nursing or a clinical doctorate.
  • National certifications.
  • Prior experience managing pediatric patients with orthopedic conditions.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
