Job Summary:
The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State University is seeking a skilled Grant Writer to support the research mission of the Energy Institute and Earth and Environmental Systems Institute. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, planning, and writing grant proposals, as well as tracking compelling grant opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Seeking and researching grant opportunities from local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as research foundations.
- Facilitating the formation of project teams to develop collaborative research proposals and providing logistical support.
- Writing and editing non-technical sections and providing support for technical sections, ensuring compliance with proposal guidelines and internal processes.
- Assisting Principal Investigators with team development and internal and external partnerships.
- Developing a list of new grant prospects and preparing summary memos for each.
- Collaborating closely with institute leadership, Principal Investigators, and various sub-units to gather necessary information for budget and project cost-share contributions.
- Preparing and submitting regular reports to funding agencies, providing updates on grant activities, achievements, and outcomes.
- Scheduling, coordinating, and facilitating planning meetings, and documenting progress.
- Providing updates and sending progress summaries to Principal Investigators and directors.
- Communicating the proposal strategy and progress to other organizational stakeholders and obtaining input and sign-off on content from other departments as needed.
- Creating and maintaining a repository of grant support documents and tracking the progress of grant proposals submitted and their outcomes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher, plus one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong research abilities, with the capacity to gather and analyze information efficiently to inform decision-making.
- Ability to communicate using clear, concise, and compelling language.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with funding agencies and relevant stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.

Additional Information:
This is a hybrid position that combines remote and regular on-campus work. Questions related to the hybrid work arrangement should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.
Minimal travel is required for this position, which may fluctuate based on business needs.
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $61,000 to $89,600.
