Position Summary
The primary responsibility of this role is to strategize, organize, enhance, and oversee the comprehensive functioning of our Nursing Services Department, ensuring compliance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility. This position works closely with the Administrator and Medical Director to uphold the highest standards of quality care.
Delegation of Responsibilities
As the Nursing Services Director, you will be entrusted with the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to fulfill your designated duties.
In the absence of the Medical Director, you will be responsible for implementing the resident care policies established by our facility.
Key Responsibilities
While every effort has been made to outline the essential functions of this position, it is understood that additional duties may be required as needed.
Administrative Duties
Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and manage the nursing service department and its associated programs in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
Maintain and periodically update written policies and procedures governing the daily operations of the nursing service department.
Ensure the availability of a reference library of nursing materials to support the department's daily needs.
Develop and implement a structured organization for nursing services.
Prepare and present reports and recommendations to the Administrator regarding the nursing service department's operations.
Establish and maintain written job descriptions for all levels of nursing personnel in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
Implement and maintain a quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
Participate in facility inspections by authorized agencies as required.
Assist in developing action plans to address identified deficiencies.
Committee Participation
Engage in various facility committees as appointed by the Administrator.
Evaluate and implement recommendations from committees as they relate to nursing services.
Personnel Management
Assess staffing needs and recommend appropriate levels of nursing personnel.
Assist in the recruitment and selection of nursing staff.
Ensure compliance with training program requirements for nursing assistants.
Develop work assignments and schedules for nursing staff.
Conduct performance evaluations for nursing personnel.
Monitor attendance to ensure adequate staffing levels at all times.
Nursing Care Responsibilities
Participate in the admission process for residents, ensuring their nursing needs are met.
Oversee the provision of direct nursing care and ensure compliance with care plans.
Ensure that nursing staff are informed of new admissions and their care requirements.
Conduct regular rounds to assess resident needs and the quality of care provided.
Staff Development
Facilitate ongoing training and orientation programs for nursing staff to ensure a knowledgeable workforce.
Encourage participation in external training programs and continuing education.
Safety and Compliance
Assist in developing safety standards and ensure compliance with infection control procedures.
Monitor nursing service areas to maintain cleanliness and safety standards.
Qualifications
Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum of three years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
Current, active nursing license in the state of practice required.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills are essential.
Must be able to work effectively with residents, families, and staff in a compassionate manner.
