Job Summary:

The Physical Therapist - Hospital Setting assesses, plans, and implements prescribed physical therapy treatments. This role provides quality services autonomously in a Hospital setting, assisting patients to prevent disability and promote maximal patient/caregiver participation. The Physical Therapist is responsible for recovery programs following disease, injury, surgery, or loss of a body part.

Services are provided according to Physical Therapy, Medical Center policies and procedures, and the application of treatment techniques in accordance with discipline-specific designated practice acts. In-patient services are provided under physician's orders, and the Physical Therapist supervises Physical Therapy Assistants as needed.

Participation in case conferences and discharge planning meetings is essential, with coordination with Case Managers for patients requiring continued Physical Therapy services after hospital discharge. These services may be provided for both Loma Linda University Medical Center and Loma Linda University Children's Hospital based on adult or pediatric assignment.

Education and Experience:

A graduate from an accredited Physical Therapy program is required. If assigned to NICU departments, a minimum of two years of post-graduate pediatric experience is required.

Knowledge and Skills:

The Physical Therapist demonstrates the ability to meet Department documentation standards and regulation requirements. They must be able to read, write legibly, speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality, use computer and software programs necessary to the position, troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment.

Effective communication and collaboration with others, assertiveness, and consistency in following and/or enforcing policies are essential. The Physical Therapist must work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure, lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate. They must also be able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone, think critically, work independently with minimal supervision, perform basic math functions, manage multiple assignments effectively, work well under pressure, problem-solve, organize and prioritize workload, recall information with accuracy, and pay close attention to detail.

Licensures and Certifications:

Current licensure by the Physical Therapy Board of California and California Children's Services (CCS) paneling if working on Pediatric Rehabilitation or CCS paneling within twelve months hired into Pediatric Program is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is also required.
