Job Summary

To provide comprehensive eye care services to patients, including examining visual problems, diagnosing diseases, and prescribing treatment as a licensed optometrist. Collaborate with other healthcare providers as needed for further evaluation and treatment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough eye exams using advanced optometry instruments and techniques.
  • Diagnose and treat visual diseases, disorders, and deficiencies in accordance with state laws and regulations.
  • Prescribe and fit contact lenses to meet patients' visual needs.
  • Determine visual requirements for partially sighted patients and recommend low-vision aids.
  • Use diagnostic pharmaceutical agents to detect and diagnose ocular pathology, as permitted by law.
  • Identify ocular signs of systemic diseases and medications through examination techniques.
  • Refer patients to other Kaiser Permanente providers as needed for further evaluation and treatment.
  • Participate in departmental and educational meetings, including peer review activities.
  • Consult with internal medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology on patient care issues.
  • Develop and implement eye care in-service education programs for medical center staff and patients.
  • Evaluate and manage anterior segment disorders, under the standing orders of a physician and in co-management with an ophthalmologist.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Optometry.
  • Enrollment in PECOS within 90 days of hire date.
  • Optometrist License (Maryland) OR Optometrist License (Virginia) OR Optometrist License (District of Columbia).
  • Basic Life Support required at hire from American Heart Association.
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an interdisciplinary healthcare environment, or successful completion of an accredited residency program.
  • Accredited residency in Optometry preferred.
