Nursing Assistant

As a Certified Nursing Assistant on our General Medicine floor, you will be part of a dynamic team that collaborates with top clinicians, technical experts, and business professionals across all disciplines.
The Advanced Medicine units at HUP specialize in General Medicine with Telemetry, caring for a diverse patient population with chronic diseases, infectious diseases, cardiac conditions, psychiatric issues, gastrointestinal problems, and renal concerns. Our units utilize cutting-edge technology, including Philips Intellivue Information Center and EASI 5-Lead telemetry system, MAC 5000 EKG machines, Philips HeartStart MRx biphasic defibrillator, Medley infusion pumps, mini-infusers, bladder scanners, and Doppler.
As a Nursing Assistant, you will support the practice by collecting and reporting patient data, incorporating organizational competencies, and working under the direct supervision of Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing exam rooms for provider evaluation of patients
- Maintaining adequate stock levels of medical supplies and other required items in the exam rooms
- Performing appropriate inventory control methods
- Ordering medical supplies to ensure ongoing patient care is not compromised by lack of necessary items
- Assisting with data collection for nursing history and physical (vital signs, height, weight, blood sugar results, functional status) and communicating changes to the RN or CRNP in a timely fashion
- Providing patient and family information to the RN or CRNP for coordination of care
- Retrieving supplies from medical supply vendors or in-house sources and securing stock items in appropriate locations
- Maintaining a safe environment and protecting the patient from injury by observing the patient who may be at risk for falls, confusion, disorientation, wandering, or suicidal behaviors
- Participating in staff meetings
- Performing periodic quality control on urinalysis and pregnancy tests
- Assisting the physician or CRNP to perform physical exams
- Documenting findings and patient results on patient documents and in the patient's EMR
- Assisting in evaluating nursing care given by comparing the patient's functional status from day to day and discussing this with the nurse
