Area Coordinator

The Area Coordinator is a live-in, full-time professional Student Life staff member responsible for creating a respectful, safe, and comfortable living environment for students at Nichols College. This position involves assisting students in their personal and academic growth, as well as overseeing the Residence Life program in an assigned area.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree, preferably a Master's degree in Student Personnel or a related field. Residence Life experience and effective communication skills are essential for success in this role.

The Area Coordinator will be responsible for supervising 9-14 Resident Assistants, conducting weekly staff meetings, and providing support and direction to student staff. They will also be involved in planning and implementing in-service training, promoting positive job performance, and evaluating staff regularly.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Area Coordinator will be sensitive to students' emotional, personal, behavioral, and academic needs, providing counseling and advising as needed. They will also be knowledgeable of campus resources, making referrals and working with these agencies to assist students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Community Development: Understand the philosophy of Student Development and apply theories to practical residence hall experiences.
• Supervision: Supervise 9-14 Resident Assistants, conduct weekly staff meetings, and provide support and direction to student staff.
• Counseling/Advising: Be sensitive to students' emotional, personal, behavioral, and academic needs, providing counseling and advising as needed.
• Administration: Assist with the opening, everyday functions, and closing of the residence halls, as well as process maintenance work orders and utilize conduct and housing software.
• Policy Enforcement/Crisis Management: Communicate, interpret, and enforce College and residence hall policies and procedures, encouraging behavior consistent with the Nichols Student Code of Conduct.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in Student Personnel or a related field preferred.
• Residence Life experience and effective communication skills are essential.
• Pride in one's work, willingness to contribute to the positive welfare of students, and the ability to use one's common sense are a must.
