Position Overview

The National Security Sector at Leidos is seeking a qualified Arabic Toponymist (Geospatial Linguist) to support our mission. This role involves analyzing and integrating information related to geographic feature data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and conflate data associated with the Geographic Names Database (GNDB).
  • Collaborate with experts in the Intelligence Community on geographic names.
  • Utilize agency guidelines to address inquiries regarding name usage and Romanization systems.
  • Employ Geographic Names Processing Systems (GNPS), charts, imagery, and geospatial tools to enhance names information.
  • Prepare and maintain files and maps, ensuring accurate data entry into the GNDB.
  • Scan and geo-reference hardcopy maps, and research geospatial data sources.
  • Interpret and apply national and international policies related to geographic names.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with 4-8 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 2-6 years of experience.
  • TS/SCI clearance required, with the ability to obtain and maintain Polygraph.
  • Advanced proficiency in GIS software, including ArcGIS Pro and QGIS.
  • Strong understanding of Geographic Names collection and GEOINT sources.
  • Experience with various types of maps and imagery for data extraction.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Minimum proficiency skill level 2 for Reading as defined by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Proficiency Levels.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Python scripting skills.
  • Regional geographic expertise in the analyst's area of responsibility.
