Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Medical Technologist to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of complex testing, troubleshooting problems, and verifying test results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Expertise: Perform a variety of laboratory tests to ensure accurate results, troubleshoot problems, and verify test results through in-depth knowledge of departmental workflows, principles, and instrumentation.
  • Leadership and Training: Take a lead role in designing and implementing training for students and laboratory personnel, evaluates new methods and procedures, and develops one or more areas of specific expertise.
  • Quality Control: Maintain a thorough knowledge of the laboratory's QC programs, monitor reagent and commercial control levels, and apply knowledge of QC data assessment to daily runs.
  • Communication and Documentation: Accurately report laboratory results, demonstrate computer, communication, and documentation skills, and maintain accurate records of patient results.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Foster mature, respectful relationships with fellow employees, patients, and staff to ensure a professional environment and approach to all work areas.
  • Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting: Recognize and troubleshoot problems related to procedures and instrumentation, and allow for personal career growth.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent.
  • Experience: Three to five years of experience in the applicable Laboratory department, preferably at least 3 years in the current GH laboratory.
  • Licensure: ASCP or equivalent preferred.
  • Special Skills: Leadership skills that build team collaboration, promoting learning, growth, and adaptation to change, enhance departmental goals by focusing on quality while maintaining knowledge and implementing new technology in a cost-effective manner.
Working Conditions

Working in a normal clinical laboratory environment, handling test samples, utilizing a computer terminal. Close concentration and attention to detail are required. Good phone and client service skills necessary. Foster a team approach by cooperating with co-workers, supervisors, hospital staff, and physicians.
