Job Summary

The Echocardiography Technician is a vital member of the Cardiology Section, responsible for performing diagnostic echocardiography examinations. This role requires a strong understanding of thoracic anatomy and physiology, as well as the ability to operate complex ultrasound equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic quality images and Doppler frequency shift recordings using M-mode, 2-D, pulsed and continuous wave Doppler spectral display, and color flow Doppler imaging.
  • Conduct complex diagnostic procedures, including acquiring images of the chambers of the heart and valves using sector scanning techniques.
  • Perform ultrasonic examinations, including transthoracic echocardiography, bubble studies, and contrast echocardiography.
  • Assist in preparing and setting up for transesophageal echocardiograms, including gathering supplies for contrast injections and attaching patient monitoring equipment.
  • Adapt transducer positioning, instrument controls, and examination techniques to the individual patient and the pathology being evaluated.
Requirements
  • At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level, demonstrating knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the duties of the position.
  • Ability to produce diagnostic quality images and Doppler frequency shift recordings using M-mode, 2-D, pulsed and continuous wave Doppler spectral display, and color flow Doppler imaging.
  • Knowledge of normal echocardiographic findings and deviations produced by a wide variety of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Ability to perform complex procedures, including cardiac studies of the four chambers of the heart and valves using sector scanning techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience as a registered cardiac sonographer.
