Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant II Certified provides clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers and teams in an outpatient setting.

Working under the supervision of a provider for patient care activities and under the general direction of a designated manager, this role is responsible for delivering exceptional patient care and contributing to a positive work environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collects and documents patient data, including vital signs, medical history, and reason for visit.
  • Assists providers with treatments, examinations, and procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Performs phlebotomy, collects specimens, and administers medications under provider direction.
  • Reviews patient records to determine necessary health screenings and ensures exam rooms are prepared for visits.
  • Provides patient education and instructions, and maintains accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Assists with patient registration, scheduling, and referrals, and maintains a positive and respectful attitude in all interactions.
  • Participates in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse, and contributes to a safe and healthy work environment.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, AMT, or equivalent required; Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association also required.
  • At least one year of full-time experience as a Credentialed Medical Assistant, with demonstrated possession of competencies outlined in the Credentialed Medical Assistant Advancement Worksheet.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use a computer to document patient information and maintain accurate records.

This role is employed by UNC Physicians Network Group Practices, a private, for-profit subsidiary of UNC Health Care System.
