Position Summary

The Land Development Division is responsible for the technical evaluation and oversight of land development applications, managing performance and erosion control bonds, maintaining development records, and providing expert guidance to other County departments regarding land development matters. Our team is dedicated to delivering outstanding customer service.

Planning Technicians are integral to the land development process within Loudoun County. This role acts as the primary gatekeeper for numerous land development applications annually, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. They initiate the record-keeping process and serve as the main point of contact for the development community regarding incoming projects. As they gain experience, Planning Technicians may engage in the plat review process and could eventually manage their own projects under the guidance of professional planning staff. Additionally, they play a vital role in customer service, handling inquiries from the public through various communication channels and organizing responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. With adequate training and experience, Planning Technicians often assist citizens with complex land development inquiries. Furthermore, they support the Department by collaborating with the Bonds Management Team, the Management and Budget Team, and other Departments.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service abilities, navigate the complexities of the land development process, and perform a variety of administrative and entry-level professional planning tasks. Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with intermediate proficiency in computer applications and Microsoft Office, are essential. The candidate should demonstrate strong organizational skills, reliability as a team member, and the capability to work independently. Familiarity with the planning profession is advantageous.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent, along with two (2) years of relevant experience in a governmental setting, or a combination of education and experience.
