We are seeking a highly skilled MRI Technologist to join our team at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems. As an MRI Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Perform MRI procedures using MRI scanners and associated technology to produce high-quality images for diagnostic purposes.
- Apply principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patients, self, and others.
- Select appropriate pulse sequences and follow established protocols to ensure optimal image quality.
- Document pertinent exam information in the medical record and maintain archival storage of imaging exams and associated documents.
- Assist licensed independent practitioners with specialized interventional MRI procedures and apply appropriate aseptic surgical technique as needed.
- Maintain records, respect confidentiality, and adhere to established policy.
- Apply principles of patient safety during all aspects of MRI procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
- Verify informed consent and assume responsibility for patient needs before, during, and after procedures.
- Prepare patients for procedures and apply principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
- Perform venipuncture and start and maintain intravenous access per procedural protocol based on imaging orders from licensed independent practitioners.
- Identify, prepare, and administer medications generally associated with diagnostic imaging procedures as prescribed by licensed independent practitioners.
- Evaluate images for technical quality and ensure proper identification is recorded.
- Identify and escalate emergency situations and manage until appropriate licensed independent practitioners, EMS, MERT, RRT, or Code Team arrives to assume control.
- Provide patient education related to imaging procedures and educate, mentor, and oversee students and other learners in the Radiology environment.
- Participate in ongoing quality assurance activities.
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) or Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)
- Current Certification by ARRT-MRI
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- One (1) year of previous MRI Technologist work experience
- Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment
- Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology that is recognized by the ARRT; or Graduation from a JRCNMT accredited program in nuclear medicine technology
MRI Technologists work in a fast-paced environment with frequent and intense customer interactions. They must be able to handle multiple priorities, adapt to frequent change, and work in a noisy environment.
MRI Technologists must be able to lift 20-50 pounds and stand for prolonged periods. They must also be able to use assistance devices as appropriate.
MRI Technologists must have immediate access to a home phone or cell phone.
MRI Technologists are considered "Essential Employees" who may be required to report to work in accordance with the VCUHS Policy.
