We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic team at the Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions to adults living with mental health conditions who are undergoing forensic evaluation.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct occupational therapy evaluations to identify individuals' current level of functioning and goals towards recovery.
- Develop and implement interventions in group and individual settings to develop and/or improve client factors identified at evaluation.
- Provide ongoing input into initial and subsequent Treatment Plans and updates rehab goals and interventions.
- Counsel patients and family members regarding progress, goals, and plans as requested.
- Facilitate community integration and provide resources to patients and family members.
- Participate in ongoing staff and patient orientation to OT Services as indicated.
- Maintain records of patient attendance, equipment/interventions used, response to treatment, and adaptations to treatment in relation to treatment goals.
- Coordinate with rehabilitation/occupational therapy team and other group leaders to ensure that groups are held on time, in place, and that proper materials are provided/available.
- Participate in planning special activities such as holiday events, and community outings that support recovery and quality of life for patients.
- Knowledge of the treatment methods, techniques, and procedures used in occupational therapy.
- Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment and materials used in providing occupational therapy.
- Ability to understand, explain, and apply the policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.
- Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of occupational therapy data, to draw conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
- Ability to administer specialty occupational therapy assessments, synthesize report of the findings, and provide recommendations based on the results.
- Knowledge of group dynamics and group facilitation when providing activity-based and psycho-educational groups with adults exhibiting signs and symptoms of mental illness.
- Ability to provide group and individual interventions while maintaining a harmonious and supportive environment.
Occupational Therapists may work in psychiatric treatment settings with individuals living with emotional distress, mental health conditions, and/or intellectual disabilities as well as with people within the correctional system. Occupational Therapists may also work out-of-doors exposed to changing weather conditions. Occupational Therapists may need to travel for work-related purposes.
Agency MissionThe Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center is a 60-bed inpatient psychiatric facility that provides comprehensive and timely forensic evaluations for individuals to determine pre-trial competency and/or criminal responsibility. We also provide quality, integrated care to support an individual's recovery process through ongoing psychiatric treatment and care.
