Position Overview:
The Indiana University School of Medicine and IU Health Physicians is actively seeking a dedicated burn and general plastic surgeon to enhance our esteemed faculty. The preferred candidate will have a strong interest in both pediatric and adult burn practices while also being equipped to provide general plastic surgery reconstructive services.
Role Responsibilities:
This position offers a balanced combination of pediatric and adult burn surgery across two Level 1 trauma centers. The appointment can be made on either a clinical or tenure track, with the level of appointment determined by the candidate's qualifications and experience. Our faculty engage in clinical practice and research initiatives aimed at improving patient care and educating the next generation of plastic surgeons.
Facilities and Services:
The Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Eskenazi Hospital is recognized as the only adult burn program in Indiana that is verified by the American Burn Association. This facility features a 15-bed inpatient burn unit, all equipped with ICU capabilities, along with dedicated burn operating rooms, procedure rooms, and a comprehensive outpatient clinic. Annually, the burn unit manages over 300 admissions and treats more than 3,100 outpatient burn cases, with over 900 unique burn patients. The burn team is responsible for managing burn resuscitations, inhalation injuries, wound care, and surgical interventions for acute burn patients. Additionally, reconstructive services include laser scar therapy, scar revision, and flap reconstruction.
The Speedway Burn Unit at Riley Hospital for Children stands as the only pediatric burn program in Indiana verified by the American Burn Association. This unit comprises a 10-bed facility located conveniently near the adult hospital. It handles over 170 admissions each year, and the dedicated Riley Burn clinic sees approximately 2,400 outpatient visits annually, with more than 700 unique patient interactions. Advanced practice providers are available to assist with daily patient care, outpatient evaluations, and the coordination of burn reconstruction efforts. The burn team, in collaboration with PICU services, oversees all medical aspects of acute burn care, including surgical debridements and reconstructive procedures.
Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Plastic Surgery, with a completed fellowship in burn surgery
- Critical Care fellowship is recommended but not mandatory
- Passion for educating residents and fellows, along with a commitment to research
- Eligibility for licensure in Indiana
