Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Correctional Officer 2 to join our team at the State of Tennessee. As a Correctional Officer 2, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of inmates, as well as maintaining a positive and respectful environment within the correctional facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise inmate activities and ensure compliance with facility rules and regulations
  • Conduct regular security checks and patrols to prevent contraband and unauthorized personnel
  • Assist with the intake and processing of new inmates, including searching for contraband and issuing clothing and personal property
  • Provide counseling and support to inmates, as well as evaluate their behavior and attitudes towards employees and other inmates
  • Attend meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on facility policies and procedures
  • Prepare and submit reports, including daily logs, disciplinary reports, and requisitions for office supplies
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; experience in correctional security work preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with inmates, staff, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to pass a physical examination and meet the physical demands of the job
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
