Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Laboratory Supervisor is to conduct standardized qualitative and quantitative analyses to assess the physical, chemical, and microbiological characteristics of food products. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations concerning attributes such as color, texture, nutritional content, and microbiological safety.
Key responsibilities include recording results and maintaining accurate databases, as well as performing laboratory preparation tasks to deliver precise technical information to relevant personnel.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:- Receive, log, and properly store laboratory samples.
- Prepare standard solutions and reagents for microbiological and chemical testing.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of laboratory materials.
- Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Monitor product quality to ensure adherence to established standards and specifications.
- Perform microbiological analyses of food ingredients and samples, following established protocols.
- Compile and record test results, creating graphs, charts, and reports as necessary.
- Provide training to QA technicians and other personnel on relevant laboratory procedures.
- Conduct audits or other quality assurance functions on the production floor as required.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and adhere to the chain of command for reporting issues.
- Be willing to work extended hours as needed.
- Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Strong understanding of arithmetic, algebra, and statistics.
- Ability to apply scientific methods to problem-solving.
- Experience in conducting tests and inspections to evaluate quality and performance.
A minimum of two years of college or an Associate Degree in food microbiology or a related field is preferred, along with a High School Diploma. Previous experience in food manufacturing is advantageous.
Preferences:- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) candidates are preferred.
- Prior experience in Quality Assurance or Laboratory Technician roles is a plus.
Candidates must possess the ability to read, write, and comprehend English proficiently.
