The City of Idaho Falls is seeking a highly skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II to join our team. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of our Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment to ensure efficient processing of influent raw sewage.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and operate treatment plant processes, including electrical and mechanical support systems, to ensure optimum performance.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on plant equipment, including pumps, motors, and control circuitries.
- Conduct laboratory tests, such as dissolved oxygen and chlorine residual analysis, to evaluate plant performance.
- Assist with chlorination and dechlorination equipment maintenance, including the use of SCBA's during tank changing and maintenance.
- Take laboratory samples from various stages of the treatment process and check calibration of gauges, meters, and measuring devices.
- Perform a variety of laboratory tests, including mathematical calculations to determine detention times, flow rates, areas, volumes, pumping rates, etc.
- Assist with maintenance and repair of plant equipment, including emergency repairs and procedures.
- Perform related duties as required, including assisting with snow removal from public rights-of-way.
- Graduation from high school and three (3) years of experience in Treatment Plant operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations associated with plant operations, technical treatment plant equipment and machinery, plant processes, plant policies and procedures, ordinances, laws, and regulations governing wastewater treatment and discharge.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to operate a variety of types of hand and power tools related to the maintenance of plant facilities and equipment.
- Must possess an Idaho Class B, Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement and an Idaho Class II Wastewater Treatment Operator License.
The incumbent of this position will experience daily exposure to hazardous conditions, including working on high ladders and in manholes, and potential exposure to methane, hydrogen sulfide, chlorine gases, sodium bisulfate, acids, and other chemicals.
