We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team at Lamar CISD. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to students, promoting health education, and collaborating with teachers and parents to ensure the well-being of our students.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide emergency care for students who are ill or injured, using first aid procedures and obtaining necessary assistance when required.
- Assess students with known health problems on a regular basis, based on the severity of the problem or level of need.
- Conduct health appraisals, including heights, weights, vision, hearing, and other health problems as necessary, and make referrals for medical treatment when required.
- Promote health education, both individually and in the classroom, and act as a resource to teachers to promote optimum health.
- Plan and organize staff inservice training and facilitate all classroom teaching on assigned campuses.
- Perform health screening and complete forms on students being referred or reevaluated for Special Education Services.
- Review all Special Education assessments and reevaluations (REI) and complete all required forms.
- Provide health counseling for students with health problems.
- Support the philosophy of individual school campuses, the school district, and the school health program.
- Cooperate with other staff members in child abuse and drug abuse cases, assisting with the documentation and referral process according to district guidelines.
- Attend monthly health services staff meetings and other meetings required of staff members in the school assigned.
- Perform other health-related duties and other functions as assigned by the principal and/or director of nurses.
- One or more years of nursing experience required.
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program.
- Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
- Certified by the Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening and trained in scoliosis screening.
- Current CPR certification.
- Valid Texas driver's license.
- Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program.
The School Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with students, teachers, and parents. The successful candidate must be able to concentrate, communicate effectively, interpret policy and procedures, reason, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, read, coordinate district functions, compile, compute, instruct, and maintain emotional control under stress.
The School Nurse will be required to lift and carry light objects, sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, kneel, stoop, travel occasionally in-district, push, reach, perform repetitive hand motions, hear, speak, and have visual acuity. The School Nurse will work in a variety of environments, including outside and inside, with temperature extremes, humidity extremes, working with hands in water, noise, microwaves, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces, and around moving objects or vehicles.
