Job Title: Engineering Technician III

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Technician III to join our team at the State of North Carolina. As an Engineering Technician III, you will play a critical role in supporting our engineers in the administration and execution of district programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform advanced-level technical work in support of engineers, including reviewing complex highway and structure projects.
  • Lead technician reviewing projects associated with driveway permits, encroachment agreements, and subdivisions.
  • Perform complex technical and mathematical calculations.
  • Communicate with engineering firms, local and state government offices, and private entities to make revisions as needed.
  • Schedule lower-level technicians and assign inspection duties.
  • Conduct follow-up inspections to check on progress of work, completion of work, and final inspections for bond releases.
  • Perform a variety of office functions, including review of plans, permit submittals, documentation of project activities, recording project records, and maintenance of project files.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of progressive technician-level experience.
  • Knowledge in updating, maintaining, and exporting data stored in spreadsheets, databases, SharePoint Applications, GIS/apps, and web browsers.
  • Experience in performing duties that require attention to detail, analytical thinking, and prioritization to effectively manage data and/or workload.
  • Experience in conveying moderately complex technical information in professional correspondence, reports, and orally to employees, external customers, and management.
  • Experience in providing timely customer service and effective interactions with other departments, employees, and customers.
  • Knowledge in interpreting engineering plans and utilizing civil engineering principles in relation to the construction or design of roads, utilities, or non-utilities found in the right of way.
