RECRUITMENT/POSITION INFORMATION

This recruitment aims to establish an Open Eligible List to fill vacancies in this classification.

Incumbents will be rotated through various assignments and shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, within correctional and court facilities.

A Correctional Officer I is responsible for overseeing and managing inmates in correctional and court settings, along with other law enforcement duties as necessary.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be current or former peace officers with PC 830.1 status who have successfully completed probation. Only those with PC 830.1 status will be considered.

Applicants must possess a valid California P.O.S.T. certificate (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, or Management) and have graduated from a California P.O.S.T. certified Peace Officer Regular Basic Course Academy. Note that modular format (reserve) training will not be accepted.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of criminal law, police patrol procedures, legal requirements for incarceration, and the custody and control of prisoners is essential.

Applicants should demonstrate the ability to:

  • Read, interpret, and apply departmental policies and laws related to law enforcement.
  • Write clear and comprehensive reports.
  • Accurately observe and recall names, faces, numbers, and events.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with others.
  • Safely operate police vehicles and standard police firearms.
  • Pass a physical examination suitable for peace officers.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Possession of a valid California Driver License is required by the date of appointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Periodic firearms qualification must be maintained.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents will work in correctional or court facilities and may encounter inmates who could exhibit violent or abusive behavior. The role requires driving in various weather conditions and working shifts that include holidays and weekends.

SELECTION PROCESS
