Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Screening Chemist to join our team at the University of California-Davis. As a key member of our laboratory, you will be responsible for performing organic analysis for the determination of drugs and their metabolites in biological specimens using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and other analytical techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • 75% - Analytical Procedure & Testing: Conduct complex analytical procedures, including sample preparation, chromatography, and mass spectrometry, to determine the presence and concentration of drugs and their metabolites in biological specimens.
  • 10% - Laboratory Management: Maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, and supplies, and ensure compliance with quality control and assurance procedures.
  • 10% - Quality Control: Develop, implement, and maintain quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of analytical results.
  • 5% - Method Development and Project Assistance: Collaborate with colleagues to develop new analytical methods and assist with project-related tasks.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in analytical chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
  • Experience in sample preparation techniques, such as solid phase and liquid-liquid sample extraction, sample fortification, and matrix matching.
  • Skills in operating a wide range of manual and computer-controlled analytical equipment, including gas chromatographs, liquid chromatographs, and mass spectrometers.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and knowledge of statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of and skills to follow safe working practices, including handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a high-volume, high-throughput analytical laboratory in a regulated industry.
  • Competency using various forms of chromatographic software, such as ChemStation, Xcalibur, and/or Tracefinder software.
  • Ability to apply good laboratory practices and safety procedures.
Work Environment

This position is located in a regulated and accredited diagnostic laboratory where quality control and assurance as well as meticulous working habits are essential. The successful candidate will be required to wear laboratory required/supplied PPE and participate in Health Surveillance Program.

This position is subject to prophylactic vaccination for rabies, as well as medical surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
