Job Summary

The Certified Nurse Assistant I works as a vital member of the nursing team under the direct and indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse. This role assists in providing basic patient care, ensuring comfort and safety, and adhering to identified training and certification.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and organization records and information.
  • Stays informed of Departmental communications and coordinates with the Charge RN/Supervising RN to provide appropriate coverage.
  • Obtains assignments from the charge nurse/Supervising RN and reports the status of assignments at regular intervals during the shift.
  • Communicates patient care information to maintain standards of care and interacts with patients, families, and staff in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner.
  • Provides assistance to members or connects them with the appropriate person as needed.
  • Maintains safety in the use of equipment, operates and maintains equipment according to manufacturers' instructions and hospital policy, and reports the need for repair.
  • Identifies patients by checking identification bands prior to performing duties and handles hazardous and infectious waste in compliance with regulations.
  • Performs appropriate roles during Codes and delivers services in a manner that promotes patient comfort and safety.
  • Assists patients and team members in safely lifting, transferring, turning, positioning, ambulating, and transporting.
  • Assists in the application of safety devices as assigned by the RN and performs delegated tasks as defined in the CNA1 Scope of Duties.
  • Accurately measures and records vital signs and reports abnormal findings immediately to the supervising RN.
  • Collects and transports specimens when necessary and documents completion of delegated tasks on designated chart forms.
  • Reports observed changes in patient condition to the supervising RN and maintains a safe and comfortable environment for patients.
  • Completes tasks in an efficient and timely manner as assigned and collaborates with the supervising RN to prioritize tasks according to situation and total assignment.
Requirements
  • Must have completed a basic nursing assistant training program approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Nursing Assistant Certificate - Level 1 (Oregon) and Basic Life Support certification required.
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting and carrying: able to lift and carry at least 40 pounds and assist in the movement of patients and/or equipment whose weight may range from pounds.
  • Bending: able to bend up to 60 times per shift, at both the waist and knees.
  • Walking: able to stand and/or walk for the entire shift and walk a distance of three to five miles during the course of a shift.
  • Able to push/pull weights 100 to 300 pounds with assistance.
  • Standing: able to stand six to eight hours per shift.
