Job Summary:

A Medical Assistant at Intermountain Healthcare provides care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting, performing general administrative and patient care tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greets and prepares patients for healthcare providers while maintaining a positive and caring attitude.
  • Coordinates care, administers care, and documents patient information.
  • Obtains and records patient information, vital signs, and medical history.
  • Performs routine tests, including EKGs, hearing, and vision screens, as requested by healthcare providers.
  • Communicates test results to patients and establishes a plan of care by phone or mail as directed.
  • Documents patient plans of care, tests, and examination results in the medical record.
  • Prepares, cleans, and sterilizes instruments and maintains equipment.
  • Administers ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.
  • Escalates non-routine issues, questions, and/or concerns to the practice manager and/or healthcare provider(s).

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program and/or be a certified Medical Assistant.
  • Current BLS Certification is required upon hire or within 60 days of hire upon approval.
  • Three (3) months previous experience within a healthcare setting.
  • Successful completion of initial MA onboarding within 90 days, annual skills fair, and in-services for site-specific tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an Accredited National Certification Exam for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
  • One (1) year Medical Assistant experience.

Work Environment:

Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required.

Able to understand and apply information, policies, procedures, and skills required by the position.

Possess knowledge of the meaning and use of medical terminology and abbreviations.

Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in providing safe, quality patient care.

Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment procedures as well as medical equipment and instruments used in administering patient care.

Proficiency utilizing various computer software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and Electronic Health Records.
