Job Summary

This position is responsible for supporting capital and special projects/programs that occur within Nicor Gas related to Corrosion Control and Design.

The Corrosion Engineer will ensure adequate and consistent corrosion control designs are developed and implemented during all phases of new and existing projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform AC/DC interference monitoring and develop sound, technical solutions for remediation
  • Design new Cathodic Protection (CP) systems in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures
  • Conduct complex CP troubleshooting activities and generate appropriate maintenance and remediation orders
  • Review corrosion control designs for new construction or other/special projects
  • Ensure projects are designed and installed according to plans, specifications, procedures, and regulations
  • Review and evaluate new corrosion control technology for use and assist with development of corresponding procedures
  • Monitor new CP installation projects to ensure successful completion in accordance with plans and procedures
  • Conduct timely cathodic protection troubleshooting (i.e. low systems, shorted conditions)
  • Generate timely remediation work orders (i.e. install anodes, clear short, install insulator, repair/replace test station) and follow through with necessary departments to ensure timely completion
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • NACE Certified Cathodic Protection Technologist CP3
  • Valid drivers license
  • 4 years' work experience in pipeline cathodic protection and corrosion control
Preferred Qualifications
  • NACE Certified Cathodic Protection Specialist CP4
  • NACE Coating Inspector - Level 1 or higher
  • Professional Engineering License, Project Management Professional
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Frequent local travel with occasional (5 – 20%) overnight travel
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • This position occasionally requires prolonged standing or walking
  • This position occasionally requires the incumbent to reach above shoulder level
  • This position occasionally requires the incumbent to bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds
